Setting display and color settings in Windows

Tip #: 4.1.76
Ver(s): PTWin32, V2, V1

Imagine that instead of controlling how you appear to the outside world your clothes were selected by each person that looks at you. That’s what happens when you design software for Windows. Any user has control over what their copy of PTWin32 looks like to them.

Users can set the background wallpaper, desktop themes, color scheme, icons, fonts, sounds, resolution, and spectrum to change the way PTWin32 looks on their computer. While this allows a great deal of personalization potential there are combinations of these settings that make PTWin32 harder to work with.

We feel PTWin32 is best used at resolutions of 800X600 or higher. 16-bit color or higher is recommended, and Font Size should be set to; Small Fonts. As for color schemes use what works for you. We don’t care if you want it to look like the Mojave Desert or the Oscar Meyer Weiner mobile.

While settings outside the above recommendations will certainly work, you may find yourself doing a lot of unnecessary scrolling to deal with truncated windows. And as always, make sure you are using the most recent video driver for your monitor.

You can find many of the settings for your display in the Windows Control Panel. You’ll be surprised how much power you have, but take our advice and don’t do anything that’s hard to look at for long periods of time.
