Adding user comments to the Error Log at the moment of error

Tip #: 4.2.87
Ver(s): PTWin32

In an effort to better support our users we have built an Error Log into PTWin32. When you are using PTWin32 and something happens to prevent the processing of your data an error message is generated and displayed.

When this happens the PTWin32 Error Log stores a copy of the message along with some other pertinent information about the situation that triggered the error.

When you see an error message in PTWin32 it is displayed on the Error Information page of a tabbed notebook. The other page of that notebook is labeled, Add your own information about this Error.

If you display the Add your own information about this Error page you will find that it allows you to type a description of what you were doing when the error occurred.

Providing a description of the actions that triggered the error can often times be helpful to Black Bear Systems’ technical support staff.

The generation of an error message can be caused by a fault in the user or a fault in PTWin32. Many error messages that are the result of incorrect user actions will tell you how to alter your approach. These types of errors don’t require user comment.

If instead you receive an error that refers to technical information that is unfamiliar to you please take a few moments and make as many notes as you can regarding the events that led to the error. Try not to draw conclusions and be as detailed as possible. These notes may go a long way to solving the problem.
