Graphic Logos with more resolution information than needed

Tip #: 5.1.110
Ver(s):PTWin32, V2, V1

The System Settings command on the PTWin32 Options menu provides a place for you to place a graphic bitmap that is used in the header of printed reports. Usually this is used for the seal or logo of the jurisdiction.

These graphic bitmaps can range across the full spectrum of sizes which depend on various factors like resolution (dots per inch) and number of colors used. For example, a black-and-white bitmap 2 inches square at 300 dots per inch will be about 44 kilobytes in size. At 72 dots per inch the same file shrinks to 3 kilobytes.

These are good ranges for a PTWin32 report header graphic since it’s about as big a space as the graphic is given on the printed reports.

If you insert a bitmap containing a graphic larger than about 2 inches square then the extra graphic information in the file goes along for the ride to the printer. This extra graphic information can significantly slow the execution of your reports.

Many users are simply handed a graphics file from an external source to insert into PTWin32. Often times the external source sends a file far in excess of what is needed for the report header.

If your PTWin32 logo graphic is larger than you need you can resize it in Windows Paint program usually found in your Accessories program group. Use the Stretch/Skew command found on the Image menu to resize your source file. Then Paste it into PTWin32’s Logo Graphic field. This will optimize report printing times.
