Introducing PTWin32 |
It’s getting progressively harder to come
up with an angle that will spur action among those of you not keeping proper
backups of your PTWin32 data. This time it’s a word of advice about where you
keep your backups. Users are often tempted to make a compressed
backup of their data which they store in the \PTWin32\Data directory. This
appears to be the path of least resistance but it can be a recipe for disaster. If the hard drive crashes you will lose both
your live data and your backup. Secondly, many users inadvertently bloat the
size of their backup file by backing up old backup files already in the
\PTWin32\Data directory. So make sure you move your backup files to a different
drive location. Talk of eggs and baskets no longer works
when it comes to stressing the importance of regular backups. Nor will we
balance safe against sorry. How about; “The mouse that has but one
hole is quickly taken”. Or; “Good riding at two anchors, men have told, for
if one break the other may hold”. Don’t make us subject you to more of these wise sayings, and don’t think we won’t. If you want these stupid warnings to stop you will have to start practicing good backup etiquette.
