Introducing PTWin32 |
The
database table type used with PTWin32 is a Paradox format. This format is widely
recognized and supported by numerous third-party software vendors. Now
it’s one thing to use a third-party software program to look at the data as in
report writers and query engines, but it’s a whole other thing to use those
third-party programs to alter the structure of PTWin32 tables. This is
not the sort of thing that most users would try to do but we have a significant
number of users who perform their own GIS exports or outside-source data
imports. To these
people we extend a warning; Do not believe your third-party software vendors
when they tell you they support changes in structure to Paradox tables. Many of
them do allow you to alter field types and lengths but we have yet to see one
that maintains the entire family of files that make up a Paradox database table. It’s
not just the .DB file that makes up a Paradox database. There may be more than
ten different filename extensions that travel with a .DB table. It’s rare to
find a third-party software vendor that supports all of these functions
