Don't be plagued by doubt
Logging out when not at your computer

Tip #: 6.1.150
Ver(s): PTWin32, V2, V1

Most of the user tips that appear in the pages of PTWinformation are about what to do while using PTWin32. This tip is about what to do when you are not using PTWin32.

When you execute PTWin32 you are presented with a Splash Screen. This is the graphic box that appears in the middle of the PTWin32 desktop. At this point most of the buttons in the Main Toolbar are grayed out and unavailable. This is because you are not logged in to PTWin32.

As soon as you press the Log On button the Splash Screen disappears. Then you log on and use the system. As long as you are logged in anyone using your computer will have the rights to do whatever functions you are permitted, including the alteration or deletion of records.

If you are going to step away from your desk for any significant period of time you should log off of the PTWin32 system. You can do this by selecting Log Off from the File pulldown menu, or by pressing the Log Off button on the Main Toolbar.

You will be asked to confirm the log off then you will be logged off and the Splash Screen will re-appear. If you can see the Splash Screen then you are not logged into the PTWin32 system.

Leaving yourself logged in when you are not at your desk invites mischief. And leaving a PTWin32 window open can lock the displayed record so that no other users can make modifications.

Always log off. It may take a few extra seconds, but you will know that your computer is secure.
