Selection Values
Define your own choices for combo box fields

PTWin Version 2 allows users to add
additional Selection Value Types to the system that can then be assigned to data fields in
the Permit Info or Additional Info pages.
Each new Selection Value Types will have a descriptive name, of up to 32 characters, and a
4 character type code that must be unique. Once a new type has been added it can be
assigned to any existing or new data field using the Options | Modifications feature of
PTWin.
Instructions for adding new Selection Value Types are found below. Instructions for adding
values to the new types and assigning the types to fields in the Permit Info or the
various Additional Info pages are found in the PTWin manual.
1) Make sure all users of PTWin are logged out of the program.
2) Run the Paradox Runtime program found in the PTWin program group.
3) Open a form by clicking on the Form Tool icon in the tool bar of the PFW Runtime window
(first one on the left). This will open the Open Document window.
4) Click on the combo box in the Drive (or Alias) area and select the icon for the drive
on which the data are stored. (Server drive for a network installation and local hard
drive for stand-alone installation.)
5) Select the PTWin directory and then the Programs directory from the list that displays
in the Directories box. A list of files with FSL extensions will then display on the left
side of the window.
6) Using the elevator bar on the right of the window, scroll down toward the bottom of the
file list and select the SELVTYPE.FSL file. Click the OK button to open the file. You will
now see a two column table displayed in the Form window.
7) Press the F9 key to enter the edit mode.
8) Select Record | Insert from the PFW Runtime menu - a blank row will open up in the
table list.
9) Type in the new table name. Press the tab key to go to the next column of the table and
type up to four characters to provide a brief description of the table name. This name
must be unique in the list and the following abbreviations should not be used: cdef, cont,
fees, insp, lic, parc, perm, rcpt, time.
10) If another type is required, select Record | Insert again and repeat step 9. The name
will re-sort in alphabetical order.
11) When you have finished adding new Selection Value Types press the F9 key to exit edit
mode.
12) Close the form by clicking on the small icon to the left of the word Form in the title
bar of the window and select Close.
13) Close PFW Runtime.
