There are lots of things you can do to
your installation of PTWin to customize it to your specific needs. In case you are just
starting out or are not familiar with the many personalizing features built into PTWin
here is a checklist of items to consider.
Review & Modify Selection Value Tables
Selection Values refer to the choices for field input contained in pull-down lists.
There are over 25 different types of Selection Values in PTWin, many with pre-defined
values. You should review these to determine which values you will keep or change.
Fill in System and Report Settings
These fields hold information about Expiration Dates, Fee Rounding, and the
information and graphic image that appears at the top of Printed reports.
Set Up Security
Define passworded user accounts with different rights to different PTWin modules. You
should give users access only to what they need.
Configure Auto-Numbering
Turn Auto-Numbering off or choose from a built in numbering scheme or custom
formatting. You can configure each of nine separate PTWin modules with their own
Auto-Numbering scheme.
Load all fees into the Fee Tables
You can store your fee schedules for fixed, scaled, hourly, and calculated fees, then
select them from pull-down fields to fill in fee records.
Create Fee Groups
You can define any number of Fee Groups, which will automatically charge a family of
multiple fees to a fee record.
Organize Permits
The notebook pages and fields appearing on the Permit Info tab distinguish one permit
type from another. PTWin comes with nearly 25 permit types. You should review these to
determine what you will keep, change, or create.
Organize PTWin Modules
The notebook pages and fields appearing on the Additional Info tab of the parcel,
owner, inspection, fee, receipt, contractor, license, code enforcement, and time tracking
windows should be reviewed to determine what you will keep, change, or create.
Organize Inspections
The checklists that appear in the inspection window distinguish one inspection type
from another. PTWin comes with a dozen pre-defined inspection types. You should review
these to determine what you will keep, change, or create.
Establish Data Entry Standards
You should think about the way you enter data with regards to how you want to search
through it. You will find it easier to get data out of PTWin if you consider the case of
the letters and the abbreviation standards so that you do not have to look for variations
on the theme.
