Preparing Report Header Graphics

Tip #: 2.1.27
Ver(s):PTWin32, V2, V1

The Report Settings tab of the System Settings dialog box that appears when you select System Settings from the PTWin Options menu contains a graphics field that can hold your jurisdiction’s logo or seal. The image stored here is printed as part of the header for PTWin reports.

Some PTWin users have discovered that in certain circumstances the image they have placed in the Logo Graphic field is either too small or too large for the header of their report. In some cases the image is so large that it fills entire pages. If you are experiencing this then you need to re-size the image to more realistic dimensions.

Computer graphics can be a confusing subject because the displayed size of an image is based on the resolution of the image and the resolution of the monitor or printer you are using. Resolution is a measurement of the colored dots that are used to display a picture. If you raise the resolution of your monitor your picture will appear smaller but the resolution of the image has not changed. So what you see on the monitor does not always determine the size of the image on the printed page.

You can use Windows’ Paint program to re-size an image but it doesn’t always do the best job. If you have access to one of the more robust paint programs we suggest you use it. Decreasing the resolution of an image causes a loss of detail so the tool you use is critical. The goal is to make the image you use the same size as the space in your header.

Try experimenting by saving successively smaller versions of your logo in an effort to find the best size with the highest possible resolution.
