Monitor resolution information

Ver(s): PTWin32, V2, V1

Your monitor creates the images it displays by arranging colored dots or "pixels" into patterns that look like words or pictures, etc. Many computer users don’t realize that they can change the number of pixels used to create an image on the screen. These adjustable dot patterns are referred to as resolution.

Monitors can vary widely in features but most will display three common resolutions, 640X480, 800X600, and 1024X768. You might be able to improve the way you work with PTWin by changing the resolution of your monitor.

The Main Toolbar of buttons on the PTWin Desktop is 640 pixels wide. If your resolution is set to 640X480 then the Main Toolbar will be as wide as your screen. If you switch the resolution to 800X600 there will be 160 extra dots to the right of the Main Toolbar thus providing you with extra screen space for other open windows. If you change it to 1024X768 you will gain 384 pixels of width.

Keep in mind that the selected resolution is displayed on a space (the monitor screen) that does not change in size. If you raise the resolution then the items displayed appear smaller but your overall workspace increases. Lowering your resolution is similar to zooming in while raising your resolution resembles zooming out. Either you make selected objects look big, or you show a wider area in the same space.

If you can, you should experiment with your available resolutions to find the one that best fits the way you work with PTWin. Usually you can change your monitor resolutions in Windows Control Panel.
