Introducing PTWin32 |
If
you are upgrading from PTWin version 2.x you will find a number of changes
to certain data tables. For
example, The Parcel Number field
in version 2 is 24 characters long, while in PTWin32 it has been lengthened
to 32 characters. You will also notice entirely new fields like those for
cell phone numbers and email addresses. Additionally,
some of these changes to data tables have been made to support new functions
not present in PTWin version 2.x. When
you run the upgrade program to move your version 2 data into PTWin32,
you’ll notice that the new fields don’t have any data in them for your
old record. Usually
this is not a problem, but there are two circumstances where your PTWin
version 2.x data is not applicable to PTWin32. The
first is in Calculated Fees. In
version 2 you could create a Calculated
Fee based on the values in a related fee record. In PTWin32 we have
added the ability to create a Calculated
Fee that works with a value in a field that you specify. Plus, now we
remember the reference with the
fee, so you don’t have to respecify it each time a fee is charged. The
second area affected by new features in PTWin32 is Security. If
you select Security from the Options Menu and examine the User
List window you will notice that many modifications have taken place
between PTWin version 2.x and PTWin32. In
version 2 you could assign rights to individual users for Permit,
Inspection, License, Code Enforcement and System Administration functions. In
PTWin32 we have added permitconnect.com
Passwords, Parcels, Reports, and 3 settings to control Permit Views. As
a function of the upgrade we must assign something to these new settings for
each user. In doing so we want to err on the side of caution, so we do not
give away any editing rights. Each of the new settings not available in
PTWin version 2.x has been set to the most benign alternative. In
the case of Permit Views this
means that the Front Desk and Plan Review views have been set to View Only, and the Default
View is set to Management. Both
permitconnect.com Passwords
and Reports have been set to No
Access, while Parcel has been
set to View Only. These
settings are a safer alternative than guessing what your intentions might
be.
