Upgrade Issues II
What to keep, what to change

Upgrading files you created and re-encryption of passwords

Tip #: 3.1.46
Ver(s):PTWin32

The upgrade program that moves your PTWin version 2.x data into your PTWin32 installation does not know about any custom files you may have created.

For example, if you have created custom reports in the Ad Hoc report writer or Paradox then those files will need to be manually copied to your PTWin32 environment (into the PTWin32\reports sub-directory).

Most reports written to work with version 2 should work with PTWin32, but there have been some changes to the tables that may require an edit to your old report.

That was what to keep, now for what to change.

PTWin32 contains a new User password encryption scheme that differs from PTWin version 2.x. We bring your version 2 passwords into PTWin32, but they are not encrypted as part of the upgrade.

This would be okay if only a system administrator could see the passwords, but given the new security system any user with access to Reports can print out the information.

If you have not encrypted your version 2 passwords to the PTWin32 format you will find that your User List window has an encryption button that leads you through the process. If the button is not there then your passwords are already encrypted.

We strongly suggest you encrypt all passwords to assure maximum security in PTWin32.
