.VAL files are of no value

Deleting unnecessary database table files

Tip #: 3.2.55
Ver(s):PTWin32, V2, V1

The Paradox databases we use in PTWin32 are maintained in a family of files on your hard drive. These files are identified by their filename extensions. For example, .DB is a database and .MB is used for the variable length contents of your Memo field value.

Occasionally attempts to repair damaged tables cause the creation of a .VAL file. This file is used to store validity checks and referential integrity settings for a Paradox table. But PTWin32 does its own integrity checking and doesn’t use .VAL files.

If you receive an error about .VAL files being out of date you can rest assured that the solution is simply to go to your PTWin32\Data directory and delete the .VAL files. Be very careful not to delete anything but .VAL files!

If you experience persistent table damage and run an abnormal number of table verifications contact Technical Support at Black Bear Systems, Inc.
