Introducing PTWin32 |
At
some point you have to ask yourself if you’re better off entering PTWin32
records as they come in, or is it better to have base records already available
to users as they create the permit records. For
example, the existence of Parcel, and Owner base records
significantly increases the speed and accuracy of Permit record entry.
Users need only point to the existing base information rather than type it in. Most jurisdictions can easily
acquire parcel and owner information from their local Tax Assessor.
The data can come in a variety of formats but usually takes the form of
an ASCII fixed or delimited file. Using
a data management program like Paradox for Windows you can make the data
fit PTWin32’s format and import all of the Parcel and Owner
information at once. If
you are performing your own data conversion feel free to contact us. We can tell
you what’s what and point you in the right direction. The obvious benefits of
data importation usually justify the effort expended massaging the data and
putting it into PTWin32 tables, but if you don’t have an IS department or the
time to carry out your own data conversion perhaps we can help. And
we don’t stop at Parcels and Owners. If you’ve got the data we
can make it work with PTWin32. That includes Contractors, Licenses, Fees,
Receipts, Permits, Approvals, Violations, Inspections, etc. If
the data you want to convert is stored in some complex, poorly documented legacy
system comprised of many tables and fields we can tell you what it will take to
sort through it and come up with a plan for conversion. If
you have been using PTWin32 for a long time and feel you have accumulated a
number of duplicate or unnecessary records we can clean up your existing PTWin32
data to streamline your installation. We
can help you arrange for periodic updates of your information or we can build
you an automated program that updates your information whenever you want. The
alternative is to enter each record and any required subordinate records by hand
with each new application or waste large numbers of staff hours inputting the
base information from a hard copy. We’ll
be happy to talk to whatever source you have for data and help in moving a
conversion project forward in whatever way we can.
