Tip #: 4.3.92
Ver(s):PTWin32

So there you are, minding your own business, entering a permit record into PTWin32, but when you try to assign a contractor to your permit you are prohibited and you receive a message saying the contractor’s license has expired. Does this mean you have to start keeping track of expiration dates even though you may not use PTWin32 to track licenses? In a word, no.

We here at Black Bear Systems routinely work with hundreds of governments all over North America. This gives us a unique ability to compare the methods and practices of our clients to develop software that can be useful to everyone. This is why PTWin32 is so responsive to your needs.

One thing we have learned is that everyone does the same thing…slightly differently. In response we have designed PTWin32 to allow users to configure a wide range of settings that personalize each installation of PTWin32.

One such group of optional settings activates filters that prevent users from carrying out certain actions unless specific criteria are met. These settings can control the creation of records or the printing of documentation. In PTWin32 these settings are referred to as Record Blocks and Printing Blocks

There are Record Blocks that prevent the assignment of a contractor to a permit, the scheduling of an inspection, or the creation of an inspection record.

The Printing Blocks can prohibit the printing of a permit, a temporary certificate of occupancy, or a permanent certificate of occupancy.

The blocks work on expiration dates, Status field values, unpaid fees, or the existence of a final inspection record.

The Record and Printing Blocks represent one of the many optional ways you have to customize your PTWin32 installation but they can frustrate everyday users if set in a way that is inconsistent with your particular methods.

When you install PTWin32 certain blocks are active to ensure data integrity for new users. If one of these blocks interferes with the way you do business then simply turn it off.

You can alter your settings by selecting Options | Selection Values from the PTWin32 Main Pulldown Menu. There you will find check boxes and combo-box fields that allow you to sculpt your installation of PTWin32 to your specific needs.
