Graduation Requirements
Knowing your field
Making sure all Graduated Fee operators are present

Tip #: 4.3.95
Ver(s):PTWin32, V2, V1

One of the many fee types provided by PTWin32 has to do with graduated schedules. This is a scaled fee type that is calculated based on some aspect of the project.

Comparing a field value against a range of fee amounts derives the amount for the fee. You specify both the field value and the range of fee amounts that match your situation.

For example, PTWin32 comes with a graduated Building Permit Fee already defined. This fee uses a field from the permit record called Construction Value to calculate a graduated fee based on the cost of the project.

If you try to charge a Building Permit Fee to a permit record that has not had its Construction Value filled in you will of course receive an error. The calculation cannot be carried out without the necessary operators.

Additionally, the Construction Value field is on the Permit Information tab over which you have control. If you try to charge a Building Permit Fee to a permit type that does not contain a Construction Value field you will also receive an error instructing you to add that field to the Permit Type.

So keep in mind that if you define a fee that is dependent upon a value in a field you must make sure that the field exists, and that it has been assigned a value. PTWin32 will automatically look for the field label you specify when defining the fee. Following these few simple steps will ensure that your graduated fees, and the Fee Groups to which they might belong, are used efficiently.
