The Materials Grid
A Construction Value Calculator
Compiling values for items included in the Construction Value

Tip #: 4.3.98
Ver(s): PTWin32

The Plan Review tab of the PTWin32 permit window contains a sub-tab called Materials. The Materials tab allows you to add the various materials and quantities that are used in a project to a grid that maintains a total amount.

The sum of all of your entries into the Materials grid is automatically placed into the Construction Value field should such a field exist on the Permit Information tab for that permit type. The Construction Value field can then be used to calculate a graduated fee.

While this calculating grid is called Materials, it is actually a place to store any cumulative data used to calculate a Construction Value. You can use it for everything from yards of concrete, to square footages, or number of bedrooms. Most units you use to derive a Construction Value can be entered into the Materials grid.

In order to create the list of materials and unit prices available from the Material Type combo-box field of the Materials grid you will need to go to the Options menu. There you will find a Fee Tables selection that displays a tabbed notebook

The Fee Tables tabbed notebook contains a tab for Materials. This Materials tab allows users with System Administrator Access to add Material Types and Rates per-unit.

There are many uses for the Materials grid beyond the images conjured up by the name. Make sure you don’t rule out this method of Construction Value calculation simply because your unit of measurement doesn’t match your definition of a “Material”.
