Pushing the Post Button

Obscure Trick #99
Grounding yourself in the present
The Goto Today function of Date Fields

Tip #: 4.4.99
Ver(s): PTWin32

Whether you find it hard to believe or not, this is the 99th article written for PTWinformation. In honor of the last 2-digit tip to grace these pages we have searched our brains for the most obscure function available in PTWin32.

We’re proud to say we think we have discovered that function, and it is related to Date Fields. As most of you probably know, fields in PTWin32 that are designed to hold date values show a small button to the right of the field. Pressing this button causes a calendar to pop up.

You can use this calendar to select a date by pushing buttons that page through months and years, then double click on the day to place that date into the field.

A column of numbers to the left of the calendar grid tells you which weeks of the year are displayed, but that’s not your tip, although it certainly could be.

Your tip has to do with re-selecting today’s date after you have moved the calendar display to show dates not in the current month. If you right-click on the calendar, a menu with a single command labeled Go to today will appear. Select that command and you will be returned to the calendar page for today’s date. It took us 99 tips to get to this one. We hope it was worth the wait.
