Introducing PTWin32 |
There
are several circumstances in PTWin32 where a group of parsed fields are also
used as a single concatenated value. For
example, a parcel address can be broken into five separate values. This is done
for GIS integration purposes. But as far as most users are concerned the address
is a single value. That is why you will find an additional Address field
on the Parcel window. The Address field takes what you have typed
into the five parsed fields and assembles it into a single value. Now
when you make a report you won’t have to line up five separate address fields,
you can simply place the concatenated Address field on your report. The
same is true for the City, State, and Zip fields. You
will also find that parsed proper names like those found on the Owners
window are gathered together in a field called Display Name. Besides
holding assembled proper names the Display Name field holds Company
names. This causes it to double as a merged value that prevents you from having
to test for populated fields and suppress the blanks. The owner’s name will be
in the Display Name field regardless of its status as an individual or a
corporation. Be
on the lookout for other composite fields in PTWin32. They can save you a lot of
time and effort when it comes to sorting and layout. In
closing, we apologize to Bob Dorough for the title of this article.
