Novell Lock Violations
Patch for Client V.4.83
Novell Client V.4.83 conflict with the BDE

Tip #: 5.2.121
Ver(s):PTWin32, V2, V1

The Novell network operating system is one of many network environments in which PTWin32 may be installed. The Novell system contains Server software which must be installed on your file server, and Client software which must be installed on each workstation connected to the network.

There are many different versions of Novell Client software. Recently we have been made aware of a problem with a particular version of the Novell environment.

Some PTWin32 users are experiencing lock violation errors when using Novell Client software version 4.83 on Windows 2000 workstations. These errors are due to problems with the Novell Client V.4.83 ability to communicate with the Borland Database Engine (BDE). The BDE is the engine that PTWin32 uses to access data.

If you are experiencing these problems you will find that Novell has acknowledged the problem and created a maintenance release of the Novell Client V.4.83 software that resolves the issue.

You can learn more about Novell’s solution to this problem and download the patch that fixes it from their web site at: http://support.novell.com

If you have a network administrator or an MIS department make sure you consult them before downloading or installing any Novell patch to your workstation computer or the network file server. If you have any other questions call Black Bear Technical Support at (360) 379-9750.
