Pushing the Post Button

Double Jeopardy
Executing the Executed
Executing PTWin32 more than once in a given session

Tip #: 5.2.123
Ver(s): PTWin32, V2, V1

It’s easy to forget what programs you have executed on a computer that uses Windows. Programs stack up on top of one another like papers on your desk. Or some of the programs can be minimized and potentially undisplayed.

So what happens if you execute PTWin32 on a computer that is already running PTWin32? Well if the program is installed properly you will get an error dialog saying, “PTWin32 is already running”.

If your Windows desktop contains too many windows to see PTWin32 then you can press the Windows Show Desktop button which can be found on the Task Bar just to the right of the Start button. This will minimize all windows and allow you to maximize PTWin32 alone from the Task Bar.

If when you execute a second copy of PTWin32 you do not get the error, “PTWin32 is already running” then there is a problem with your installation. This behavior probably indicates that PTWin32 was installed to two different locations either on your hard drive and/or a network drive.

It’s possible to have many PTWin32 shortcuts on your desktop or in your Start menu but they should all point to the same copy of PTWin32. Shortcuts that point to multiple installations will probably store data in their own unique database sets.

This means your records may be split across different copies of the same database. A little housekeeping now could prevent a lot of mopping up later.
