Using file name extensions when replacing Print Button reports

Tip #: 5.4.137
Ver(s):PTWin32

PTWin32 comes with over 70 predefined reports for you to run as is or modify to your liking. There are two Report Writer programs included with PTWin32. They are RBPro, and the SRW Ad-Hoc reporter.

You can use any other Report Writer program that is compatible with PTWin32’s Paradox SQL database tables, but for this article we want to focus on the SRW Ad-Hoc reports.

As you may know you are permitted to replace certain Print Button reports in PTWin32 with your own customized reports. This is done by selecting Set Report Names from the Report Setup menu that appears under the Report pulldown menu.

Executing Set Report Names displays the Report Setup dialog box. This dialog box shows a list of Print Button reports and the default file name of each report. Here you will find a column for User Report File Name. Entering the name of your report in the appropriate row of this column will cause PTWin32 to use your report when that Print Button is pressed by a user.

However, you must remember to enter the full name of your report including the file name extension. If you do not enter the filename extension then PTWin32 will not know how to find your report.

If your report is called, MYREPORT.SRW then you must enter all 12 characters that comprise the name including the period and the three letter SRW extension
